Cllr David Bowater will continue as Chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council for the next 12 months, having been re-elected at the annual council meeting.

Cllr Fiona Chapman was also re-elected as Vice Chairman, at a meeting last week.

During his first year in office, Cllr Bowater has helped raised over £13,000 and awareness for his chosen charities, Multiple Sclerosis in Bedfordshire and Diabetes UK.

He will continue to act as an ambassador for the council, representing the authority on civic visits, at ceremonial events, as well as raising funds and awareness for his chosen charity, Meningitis Research.

Cllr Bowater said: “I’m grateful to be given another opportunity to represent the council again in this way. I will continue to devote my time to meeting many residents, local organisations and businesses and also to my charitable work.

“In addition to supporting Meningitis Research, I shall also be working with and supporting Youth United and two ex-service groups PTSD and SSAFFA in the coming year.

Cllr Chapman, who represents Flitwick and who has been a councillor for 36 years, said: “I am delightful to be re-elected as Vice Chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council and I am looking forward to another term of working with Cllr Bowater and supporting him in his role.”
