‘Consultant saved my baby’
A family are on a fundraising mission to raise cash for Bedford Hospital after their young daughter’s life was saved by a consultant on Christmas Day.
Kyla Edwards, who celebrated her first birthday at the weekend, was admitted to the hospital’s Riverbank Ward on December 22 suffering with bronchiolitis and other undiagnosed problems. But when she took a turn for the worst her life was saved by Dr Rishi Arora, who left his own family to treat the seriously ill child.
Kyla’s mum Kelly Edwards, said: “I was so scared and just remember desperately asking Dr Rishi Arora to ‘please look after her and be gentle’ before the theatre staff helped me out as I crumbled.”
Dr Arora saved Kyla’s life by putting her into a coma and on life support. Bedford Hospital then arranged a transfer to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London. Kelly and her husband Jeff now plan to raise money for Riverbank Ward to say thank you.
Kelly said: “We felt he cared for Kyla like his own.
“Knowing he came in and left his own family in bed on Christmas Day morning, yet he was so focussed on her made us feel incredibly grateful.”
