Indie rock favourites Coldplay has donated its arty stage set it used in its performance at the 2012 MTV Awards to a Bedford charity.
The stage set, which includes seven canvas boards painted by graffiti artist Paris, is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams in London.
The set is currently back in the hands of Star Events Ltd, based in Thurleigh, who provided the backdrop for the band. It was then decorated by Paris who works closely with the band.
Managing director Celine Watson-Lamb came up with the idea of auctioning off the set and donating the money raised to the Bedford and District Cerebral Palsy Society, which she supports.
Celine said: “All I did was come up with the idea. The charity did all the organising and approaching the band and getting Bonhams involved. I am really pleased that they agreed to sell the set for us.”
The charity has been told the stage could raise up to £6,000, which it hopes to spend on residential holidays, which it offers to young people suffering from cerebral palsy.
Chief operating officer Jane Howard-White said: “It was a really big surprise. We know Celine through her supporting the charity, but she never mentioned anything until she had it all confirmed.”
The set will travel to Bonhams this week and the auction will be held later this year in December.
