COUNCIL chiefs are set to be among the first to sign up to commit to reducing the impact of the council on climate change.

By signing up to the Climate Local Commitment Bedford Borough Council would be one of the first local authorities to do so.

Dave Hodgson, the Mayor of Bedford, said: “Bedford Borough Council is fiercely committed to reducing its impact on the environment as well as helping local residents to do the same.

“By signalling our intention to become one of the first 18 local authorities to sign this initiative we are continuing this commitment.”

The initiative was launched by the Local Government Association (LGA) and aims to work with local authorities to develop local actions to reduce emissions and protect council services from weather changes.
