An A&E department especially for children is the aim for Bedford Hospital’s Charity’s latest appeal.
Following the success of the charity’s £600,000 Gamma Plus appeal the A&E, Just For Children Appeal aims to raise £300,000 to help provide equipment for the planned Bedford Hospital NHS trust-funded £1.2million unit.
Jayne Beard, chair of the charity, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, said: “I believe that supporters of the hospital and the charity will be delighted to be associated with an important development.
“Much of the equipment will be specially designed for the treatment of children and the care will be delivered by staff working only with children.”
She added: “Another important benefit will be to provide a welcoming atmosphere that will help relieve the natural anxiety of children and parents during such visits.”
Acting chief executive Stephen Conroy said: “We are delighted to have this support from Bedford Hospitals Charity.
“Over the last 25 years they have raised millions of pounds for Bedford Hospital. And they have played a fantastic role in helping to keep Bedford Hospital at the heart of the community.”
