A STAFF member saved the day at Bedford School this afternoon when an industrial griddle pan caught fire.

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 1pm where staff and pupils who were sitting in the dining area had been evacuated.

But when they arrived the fire was already out after a member of staff tackled the blaze with a fire extingusher.

Fire service spokesman Neil Thompson said: “It was a fire in the kitchen to a griddle and one of the staff used a dry power fire extingusher.”

Fire fighters stayed at the scene to assist with ventilating the area before the children were allowed back into the building.

No one was injured in the incident.
