Chef in running to win scholarship
b13-249 Head chef at the Bumble Bee Rebecca Gough has got through to the final of a competition to win a scholarship for a top cooking course in London.
A talented young chef has made it through to the finals in a competition for one of the world’s top culinary scholarships.
Rebecca Gough, 19, of Clophill Road, Maulden, must now battle it out against seven other 17 to 20-year-olds for a place on the prestigious course, Le Grand Diplôme, run by Le Cordon Bleu at its Centre of Excellence in Bloomsbury Square, London.
Rebecca, who currently works as the head chef at the Bumble Bee in Flitwick, found out on Tuesday she had made it to the final after a gruelling interview in London the previous day.
She said: “To have been accepted into the finals of this prestigious award is a truly unique opportunity and it is one that I do not intend on wasting.”
She added: “I never dreamed of getting this far, I thought I would get knocked at the first hurdle. I am completely overwhelmed.”
The final takes place on March 27 and Rebecca will have to replicate a dish that is created by the judges.
If Rebecca wins she will get her place on the course and accommodation fees, worth over £30,000, as well as an apprenticeship with chef Pierre Koffman.
