Check out some awesome autumn shades

Get out and enjoy the delights the parks and Embankment have to offer

Autumn is well and truly upon us, and this year nature is treating us to a dazzling display of colour as the leaves turn to spectacular shades of gold, orange and red.

To make the most of it, why not get out there and enjoy some the delights in the many parks and open spaces around the borough?

Bedford Park, the Embankment and Harrold-Odell Country Park, to name but a few, are excellent places to take a delightful autumn stroll to view the rich variety of flora and fauna that calls Bedfordshire home.

It's also the time of year for fireworks, and the ever-popular Bedford Rugby Club display takes place tomorrow night. Gates open at 6pm and there will be a children's firework display at 7.15pm, with the main event taking place at 8pm.

Tickets for adults cost 5, 3 for children from two to 14 years and 15 for a family ticket (admitting two adults and up to three children) are available from Bedford Rugby Club, Tourist Information and the Times & Citizen.

On Saturday, Moggerhanger Park hosts its fireworks display. There will be children's fairground rides, and hot and cold refreshments available. Gates open at 6pm and the display starts at 7pm. Tickets for adults cost 4, those for children under 16 costing 3. Tickets must be purchased on the gate. Call 01767 641007 or visit the website at www.moggerhangerpark.com

For those who prefer indoor events, a talk about the Women's Land Army in Bedfordshire will be held in the Lecture Hall at Bedford

Central Library on Monday. The script will be delivered by Stuart Antrobus, who has recently

written a book about the subject.

Copies of this will be on sale at the meeting, which starts at 2.15pm. There will be a small admission charge.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 13, the Anglo Italian Music Society will be holding a winter concert at the Bunyan Free Church in Mill Street. Featuring young musicians from both the UK and Italy, the concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost 6 for adults, 5 for

concessions and 3 for students available from the Central Box Office.

And finally, don't forget Bedford's Christmas lights switch-on takes place on November 20, along the Embankment, from 7pm.
