Charity style gives us pride

From helping people pick the perfect outfit, to supporting local charities, Oxfam manager Linda Robinson regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty.

And it is Linda’s dedication to her job, at the Oxfam store in Bedford High Street that has secured her a nomination for this year’s Pride In Bedfordshire awards.

Linda, who is nominated in the Service With A Smile category, said: “I feel quite privileged and surprised to be nominated. We do try and help our customers as much as possible, if they are looking for something specific we will take a number and ring them if it comes in.

“I have a lady who lives in Luton who collects knitting patterns and knits for a charity which supports young mothers.

“Because the patterns are hard to find nowadays if we get them in we give her a call and she comes on the bus to get them.”

And Linda and her team also help people who have a special occasion to attend.

She said: “If people are looking for a particular item for a special occasion we can dress them and accessorise them as well. They leave knowing that they don’t have to trail round the rest of the shops, and it benefits the charity.”

As well as raising money for Oxfam Linda and her team of volunteers also support the Bedford Foodbank and donate toys to the children’s ward at Bedford Hospital.

Linda is also involved with the Bedford Charity Shop Support Group, a club for charity shop works from across town who meet twice a year.

And there is still time to nominate if you know someone who deserves a Pride In Bedfordshire Award.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to a glitzy reception ceremony in November where the winners will be announced.
