Charity inspired by a Fiji adventure
A carpenter who travelled to Fiji to help others has set up his own charity to continue the good work.
Andrew Murphy, 21, who lives in Clophill travelled to Fiji in 2011 and used his skills working on charity projects there.
But when he returned to the UK he was so inspired by the adventure that he decided to set up the charity New Horizons, which aims to bring sustainable ideas and materials to communities around the world.
Andrew, who now works as a barman at the Green Man in Eversholt besides his charity work, said: “We have enough things in the world to go around, it’s just about distributing it properly and that’s the thinking behind the charity.
“In Fiji I was working on a charity project building a community hall for the people in the village. It was not really a sustainable thing but it was a way of creating a meeting places and business.”
And Andrew hopes that Times & Citizen readers will get behind the charity and that those who are already involved with their own projects will come forward to offer advice.
He added: “Any help would be brilliant because at this stage it’s all very new.
“It would be great to get any support and advice from people who have done this before too.”
