Charity champ Ivor is back in the saddle

Determined dad is fundraising for NOAH

He's already completed six mammoth cycling challenges in the last three years, but dad-of-three Ivor Beamon isn't one to rest on his laurels.

Ivor, a housing project manager for Luton Borough Council, is to tackle the gruelling Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride this August to raise much-needed funds for Luton charity NOAH.

The 12-day, 1,000 mile challenge will take him from the extreme south-west of England to the northernmost point of Scotland.

It will be his most ambitious ride to date in terms of both distance and fundraising target, as he's aiming to raise 5,000 for the charity.

NOAH provides respite for homeless, vulnerable and unemployed people and where possible helps them to get them back into work.

Ivor came into contact with the charity through his work at the council, and what he saw inspired him to get back in the saddle.

He said: "The ride between the two ends of Britain is my way of offering my support to NOAH and the homeless and vulnerable people of Luton. "My family and I have a permanent roof over our heads. Others are not as fortunate."

He plans to use the challenge to raise an additional 5,000 for national charity Action Medical Research.

He is meeting all the challenge costs himself in order that every penny pledged to him in sponsorship goes to the charities.

And he's hoping that his efforts will help NOAH develop their services even further.

He said: "They're an inspiration. They have ambitious plans, however, to build special purpose centre to house all the operation under one roof and need more funds to do this."

NOAH chief cxecutive Jim O'Connor said: "Ivor's willingness to undertake this very tough challenge is very inspiring and humbling.

"The money Ivor raises will make a very real difference to lives of homeless and vulnerable people in Luton and help us in our own challenge - building our new facility, the Luton Ark.

"The new facility will enable us to offer our existing services under one roof and support more people with new services such as supported accommodation.

"The money Ivor raises will be a considerable help towards achieving this."
