Central Beds to hear licence request
MBTC-11-07-12- Shaylers Ampthill scene setter..
A DATE has been set for the hearing of a sexual entertainment licence for a lapdancing club in Ampthill.
Central Beds Council’s Sub Licensing Committee is due to meet on Monday, July 30, at its headquarters in Chicksands.
Residents and businesses in Ampthill have been objecting in their dozens to John Shayler’s application to turn his former restaurant Shayler’s into a lapdancing club.
Last week Mr Shayler told the Times & Citizen he will open the club regardless of the decision because he already has a licence to run the club.
He says the licence he has applied for relates to nudity in the club. But people in the town say that the club would result in an increase in anti-social behaviour and would attract outsiders to the town.
The Times & Citizen was the first to reveal the controversial plans last month, and it has since hit the national headlines.
