CC Smugglers have them dancing in the street!

Rocking the Rovers Return has become a regular thing for a band of local lads, who have contributed a song to the popular soap.

The CC Smugglers, who hail from Bedford and Shefford, have seen their track Mother’s Ruin played on ITV’s Coronation Street twice now, after the band were asked to be part of the channel’s music bank.

By being part of the scheme whenever a track is needed for one of the channel’s shows researchers can hear the CC Smugglers and if they use their songs, they get paid.

Leadsinger Richie Prynne, 26, who went to St John Rigby Lower School, said: “The whole thing started when I found out that Ade Edmondson was coming to Bedfordshire for his ITV programme.

“I know he does local folk music so I wrote a song about the Bedfordshire Clanger, they couldn’t use it but because we’d gone to so much effort the producer thought ‘bless em, they really tried hard’ and she said give us a song and we will put it on the ITV music library.”

He added: “I knew that the Corrie producer had it and they were going to use it, but we didn’t know that it was going to be on that episode until the day after when one of the people on our Facebook page told us about it.

“We would always find out afterwards because we will get paid royalties for it, but our songs could be on any of the ITV programmes.”

And the band have also made waves on the radio, with Richie currently penning a jingle for Radio One DJ Matt Edmondson after contacting him through Twitter.

Richie, who teaches art, drama and music to adults with learning disabilities at a centre in Shefford, said: “We are just taking any opportunity that we can. We are just giving any random thing a try.

“This whole thing is just thanks to being keen, making friends and being keen.”

And if you want to check out the band for yourself they are performing on Thursday at Holy Moly’s in Esquires.

Doors open at 7.30pm.
