Casualties in St Michaels Road fire

A FLAT fire is currently being tackled by crews in St Michaels Road, Bedford.

Up to five people have been rescued from the blaze and have been taken to hospital.

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 5.18am this morning and four fire crews and an aerial platform were dispatched.

Incident commander Guy Munno, said: “The crews worked extremely hard. This is a very complex fire to deal with.

“With fire fighters removing rood tiles to tackle the fire from above, others using the aerial platform and also fire fighters in breathing apparatus tacking the fire from inside the building to be able to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
