A single mum with a Cuban family background has launched a business to bring a taste of her country to the UK.
Carla Cancio-Bello, from Riseley, started Cuban Cuisine UK after finding difficulty sourcing her favourite foods here.
This year she has seen the company’s products increase from 30 products to almost 80, with about 20 new items in January.
The online grocery provides buyers with the tropical ingredients they need to create both Cuban and Caribbean dishes.
Carla said: “The idea for Cuban Cuisine came after many years of requesting my English Cuban mother to send me guava paste and coco rallado. Last year I started to research how I could import it myself. It wasn’t long before I found a huge wish list of items I could not find in England and so Cuban Cuisine UK was conceived.
“I was raised in Miami and love Cuban cooking so I started a blog based on my grandmother’s recipes and I named it after her. Visit Margarita’s Cuban Cuisine to get authentic Cuban family recipes.”
Carla is holding supper clubs and has also just introduced Cubita Coffee and Santiago Coffee, and started a recipe index page.
She has created a Cuban Clanger, based on the Bedford dish, which is slow roasted mojo marinated pork on one side, and guava and cream cheese on the other. Visit www.cubancuisine.co.uk
