editorial image

A RABBIT was found dead in a cage in the River Great Ouse in Kempston this week.

A woman discovered the animal while she was walking her dogs on Tuesday afternoon.

RSPCA chiefs believe the animal was still alive when the cage was put into the river.

The rabbit was a Dutch breed female, tan and white in colour, and had a silver ring on her back left leg which had the letters BRC 08 BO7861.

The basket was made of wicker material and had a white metal cage door which was tied with buckles.

There was also a Bedfordshire Times and Citizen newspaper in the cage, dated June 28, 2012.

Anyone with information is asked to call RSPCA inspector Cherry Evans on 0300 123 8018.
