The Pavilion in Bedford Park is getting a new lease of life as a takeaway officially opens.

Window At The Park is run by the team behind the successful kiosk in Russell Park, who say it is the first step to reopening a sit-down cafe.

Emma Garrett and Nansi Rose co-founded the business. They have been working on their Pavilion plan for a couple of years.

Emma said: “It’s a stunning building and we hope to refurbish it as soon as we can. We need to invest in the kitchen and make the loos more pleasant. In winter it will be a warm place to sit and read a newspaper, or join in with family-friendly events.”

A regular children’s nature activity session will begin after half term and Emma hopes once the cafe opens, it will not be long before live music and theatre also return to the park.

For now, take-away customers are served from a window at the side of the building, and can enjoy teas and coffees, home-made cakes, sandwiches and frozen yoghurt. Soya, decaffeinated and gluten-free options are available.

The official opening takes place on Saturday from 10am.

There will be nature activities, stories and songs, and a litter-pick for younger visitors while a fitness expert will also be on hand to advise adults how to make the most of the park.
