Business park plan could bring 600 jobs
UP to 600 jobs could be created if proposals to extend Marston Gate business park are given the green light.
Plans for a significant extension of the Prologis Park Marston Gate business park, just outside Brogborough, were unveiled at a public exhibition on Tuesday.
The proposals, located on land between the existing site just outside the village and the old A421 Bedford Road, is said to provide significant new investment and employment opportunities in the area.
The scheme is being brought forward by the existing operators of Marston Gate, Prologis, and will secure up to £30million of private sector investment and create up to 600 new jobs, as well as supporting many more jobs in the construction phase.
Paul Weston , senior vice-president at Prologis, said: “We are really pleased that so many local residents, parish councillors and Central Bedfordshire councillors came along to the exhibition to view the proposals and to let us know what they think about them.
“We received very positive feedback about the jobs and private sector investment that the proposed extension would secure for the area.
“Given the scale of the existing distribution park and the proposed extension, the local community has asked for further information about how the operations on site will be managed.
“We will now be looking at how to take on board this feedback as fully as possible and working with the community and its representatives as we continue to develop the planning application for the site, including a forthcoming meeting with Brogborough Parish Council.”
The site has been allocated by Central Bedfordshire Council in its Local Development Framework for future employment uses, including distribution facilities and office usage.
Prologis has considered three different plans for the site, but its current preferred scheme would see a single distribution of around 39,00 sq m with office space of 3,000 sq m and around 320 parking spaces.
An outline planning application is set to be submitted to Central Beds Council by the end of the summer.
