Burt to quiz MOD about turbine plans

b13-155 Ravensden wind turbine meeting held at village hall.

MP Alistair Burt is set to speak to the Ministry Of Defence (MOD) about plans to build a giant wind turbine in

Ravensden.

The mega turbine, which would stand in front of the Ravensden water tower has provoked an angry reaction from residents.

But the MP for North East Beds has stepped into the debate over concerns that low-flying military aircraft, which are regularly seen over the water tower could no longer use the area if the turbine is in place.

This week Helena Walker, chair of Ravensden Parish Council welcomed the news.

She said: “Aircraft do fly over the water tower and one day last week about six military helicopters went over there, they looked like the type that Prince Harry flies.

“I’m happy that Alistair Burt feels that it is a big enough issue to look at in Westminster.

“The last available chance to submit objections to Bedford Borough Council is next Wednesday, so I would encourage everyone to write in and have their say.”

If plans by Northamptonshire developers Offgrid Power go through, the turbine would stand 78 metres high, on land owned by farmer Ted Wootton.

The developers claim that if the plans go through Ravensden could become an eco community because of the turbine.

Mr Burt’s office said this week that he will take up the issue with the MOD because he is concerned that they may not be aware of the plans.
