Aldwyck Housing Group’s development, 1-4 St Paul’s Square, was voted the ‘Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development’ at the LABC central awards last month.

The buildings had gone unused for almost 40 years but have now been converted into ten affordable new homes, nine flats and one house, in the centre of Bedford.

The development was completed in June 2015 and tenants now occupy the restored properties and enjoy their new homes.

Bedford Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “These historic buildings sat lifeless in the heart of Bedford town centre for decades, and have been both preserved and revitalised thanks to this genuine partnership project.

“It’s pleasing that it has received this well-deserved recognition, as the project’s success highlights what can be achieved via a commitment to partnership working.”
