A ‘professional’ script writer has spoken about the re-release of a popular television show he created – more than 30 years after it finished.
Brian Clemens, 83, who lives in Ampthill with his wife, created, wrote and co-produced British crime drama The Professionals, which ran from 1977 to 1983.
Production company Network Distribution is now re-releasing the full set of The Professionals series on DVD, Blu-ray and iTunes on March 31.
You can relive some of the best car chases ever featured on TV in this action packed classic 70s series, with crime busting legends Bodie and Doyle.
Brian, who has lived in Ampthill for the last 50 years, said: “I think for me the shows never really went away. They have been showing on ITV for about eight or nine years. And they have been showing somewhere in the world ever since they were first made. So they have always been long-lived and they have always been loved, which is a great compliment to me - I must have doing something right.
“All the feedback we have had on them has been brilliant. It’s really nice to be able to use the technology we have these days to enhance the shows – and we have them on this Blu-ray thing they have these days.”
The Professionals has been restored to include brand new, high definition (HD) transfers and restorations from the original negatives; brand new HD restored from camera-original negatives; 5.1 tracks from original sound elements.
It will also have remastered remastered music-only tracks featuring Laurie Johnson’s original scores, and reinstated original main and end titles.
Brian created The Professionals after he came up with much-loved British spy-fi TV series The Avengers in the 1960s, which still remains a hit today.
He started writing at the age of eight and by 12 years old he had his first short story published. And he is still working today - he has just had his first book published and a play he has written is set to hit the stage.
He added: “I never really though I could actually make a living from writing. I certainly never thought I would get this far, and here I am still working today.
“I have written so many different things - probably in the thousands – for Hollywood, TV, film, and the stage.
“That’s something I never imagined.”
