A teenager was talked down from the roof of Bedford Hospital last night after threatening to harm himself.

Bedfordshire Police were called to Bedford Hospital after a 16 year old boy climbed onto the roof of the hospital at around 8.06pm.

A cordon was put in to place and police negotiators were called to the scene to talk to the person who agreed to leave the roof at 10.46pm hours.

The teenager was detained and handed over to the mental health team who will now take care of him.

A hospital spokesman said: “Bedfordshire Police were called to the hospital on Sunday evening as an individual had climbed onto the roof of a building on the South Wing site. The individual was talked down to safety and is receiving appropriate care.”
