Bookmakers held up at gunpoint by armed robber

Staff at a bookmakers were left shaken after an armed robber threatened them with a gun.

The man entered a branch of Betfred, in the Saxon Centre, Kempston, at about 8.50pm, on Friday (April 22).

Carrying a small handgun, he demanded money from the tills and escaped with a small amount of money in a bag he was carrying.

He is described as dark skinned, around 5’ 10”, aged between 19 and 25 years old and of slim build. He was wearing a baseball cap and a hood which partially covered his face, a dark Puffa-style jacket, black trousers, black gloves and dark shoes.

Investigating officer DC Darren Armitage said: “Thankfully no one was hurt in the robbery, but it left the shop workers very shaken.

“We are extremely keen to track down the offender involved and urge anyone who may have seen something suspicious to contact police. Any information, no matter how small, could assist our enquiry, so please get in contact.”
