Bedfordshire earn close Shires League win over Avon

First win for the U15 county badminton team

Shuttlers Bedfordshire U15s won their first Shires League match of the season with a keenly contested 11-9 victory over Avon at the Luton Regional Sports Centre.

Having suffered two previous reverses this season, Beds eked out victory in this closely-fought encounter. Of the 20 games played, seven went to three sets with one being won 30-28.

The honour of winning the final game went to the boys doubles combination of Darren Adamson and Greg Pearson.

The other team members were Katherine Moor, Emily Parsloe, Emily Tomkinson, Freya Twigden, Matthew Harris and Tristan Fletcher.

The U13s lost their first game of the season 13-7 at Worcester. Of the eight players, six were playing in their first county match.

The team was Hazel Trengrove, Neelam Kaur, Bethany Childs, Cherelle Hibbert, Steffano Sacco, Alexander Ingham, Phillip Roberts and Lorenzo Sacco.

County U17 Georgina Crossman, meanwhile, made her debut for the senior team in the home match against Surrey. Although Beds lost 10-5, Crossman was victorious in her singles match, but lost out in the doubles.

Players come from all over the county including Dunstable, Bedford, Leighton Buzzard, Sharnbrook, Biggleswade and Wootton.
