Esther Rantzen WILL stand at next election

Presenter to run as independent candidate

Television star Esther Rantzen has announced she will stand as an independent candidate for Luton South at the next general election.

The presenter has been mulling over whether to fight for the seat since the scandal over MPs' expenses broke in May.

She told Luton Today her mind had been made up after realising there was still great anger among the public over the allowance claims made by some MPs, including Labour's Margaret Moran, who currently represents Luton South.

Miss Rantzen said: "I had been waiting to see whether things would even themselves out. But actually I think there is every reason to stand as an independent. People want choice."
