Be fit and healthy ... and save cash
Some simple ideas to help you achieve a sense of wellbeing for little or no cost
Making your lifestyle healthier doesn't always involve expense. In fact, many improvements towards a healthier lifestyle come free or can even save you money.
If you believe cost is a factor preventing you from achieving a good sense of wellness then here are some simple, cheap ways to make a
difference.
1. Water: Although bottled or filtered water is generally best, drinking tap water is better than not drinking any water at all. Adequate water intake improves organ function and skin
appearance, helps detoxify the body, can improve your energy levels, and allows for proper digestion and absorption of nutrients.
2. Laughter: Many published studies show that having a good laugh everyday helps lower blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, and boosts immune functions. Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, and produces a general sense of wellbeing.
3. Take a deep breathe: Stress, pollution and poor posture are some of the factors which can impair breathing function. Breathing supplies the
body and its various organs with the vital supply of oxygen and assists with the disposal of waste products and toxins from the body. So sit up and breathe deeply.
4. Cheap exercise: Walking is the cheapest form of exercise and it can take as little as 20 minutes to get a cardiovascular workout from walking. Make it brisk, try to raise you heart rate and work up a little sweat – keep going for 20 minutes or more.
If your gym membership is no longer affordable check out cheaper options such as off-peak membership or change to a pay as you go exercise class such as at Bedford International Athletic Stadium, which offers pay as you go gym facilities. Call 01234 351115 for details. The Body Toning Workouts offers pay as you go exercise classes in Kempston and Bromham; call 01234 838880.
5. Chew: Eating on the go, rushing food or being stressed while eating can all contribute to inadequate digestion and ultimately digestive complaints. Learning to really chew your food well will mean food is already being down before it reaches the stomach – giving the digestive
system less work to do.
Eating smaller pieces, relaxing while eating, and ensuring that food is chewed into a liquid state and mixed well with saliva before swallowing can assist the digestive processes and reduce the risk of digestive complaints.
