Balloon fun in aid of charity
Over 700 balloons were released into the air over Bedford park at the weekend, and it is hoped some may end up in Europe.
The event was organised by sisters Jo Fitzmaurice and Hayley Parkins, who together operate Caremark, Bedford ,which sponsored the race.
Hayley said: “Having lost our Mum to cancer in 2008, we have become very passionate about helping those in need and we are delighted that the race has raised £1039.74 for the hospice, which we will be presenting to them later this week.”
Dave Hodgson, the Mayor of Bedford, attended the event in his ceremonial chains and was given the important job of releasing the balloons on their journey.
The race was organised by Caremark in aid of Bedford Daycare Hospice, which helps people with terminal illnesses,
Babs Astle, fundraising manager at the hospice, said: “It is kind of you to support our charity and the valuable work that we do.
“You can be assured that the money raised will be put towards continuing to provide the many services for the patients who attend the hospice on a daily basis.”
