Are you a poet, and know it?

World Poetry Day is almost upon us, and what better way to
celebrate than to head down to poetry open mic at Harpurs’ Cellar Bar, Bedford on March 21.

The event is run by poet Ian McEwan, who is keen for anyone to have a go, even if they’ve never tried performing before.

He said: “People can expect see a range of poets and I would say about 80 per cent of what is performed is what people have written themselves. This ranges across the spectrum from the stand-up comedy type stuff to to the very sentimental and sad poems.

“We also get people standing up and performing stuff that they know very well from the past.”

He added: “My aim is to get as many people to get up and feel as comfortbale to perform as possible. This is very much a safe place where everyone can have a go.”

The poetry open mic night starts at 8pm. And if you can’t make it down there’s one on the third Thursday of every month.
