DEVELOPERS have submitted an application to build the new railway station for the Wixams estate south of Bedford.

The application has been submitted by developers Gallagher Estates in association with Network Rail.

Gallagher has committed to invest £17.3million in the station and, subject to Network Rail securing further funding from the Department For Transport and planning permission being secured, the station could be open and serving passengers by early 2015.

The station would offer direct access for London commuters, and would be between Bedford and Flitwick.

It would also have a multi-storey car park.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “With its park and ride facility the new station will also offer sustainable travel options easing the burden on existing stations at Bedford and Flitwick.”
