OLYMPIANS like Usain Bolt and Jessica Ennis can look forward to having their bags carried by one sporty schoolgirl from Bedford.

Alanah Harris, 16, who attends Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College in Kempston, has been selected to be an official kit carrier at the London 2012 games this summer.

And Alanah is a talented sportswoman in her own right, winning the 3,000 metres and coming second in the 1,500 metres in her age range at at the Bedfordshire Amateur Athletic Association’s track and field championships in Bedford at the weekend.

She said: “One of my friends who I run with at the Bedford and County Athletics Club saw online an opening for kit carriers, so we filled out an application form and both got accepted.

“It will be great because we will get first hand experience of the games.

“It’s really important to me to be part of London 2012. Not many people will get this experience and I feel very lucky.”

She added: “I would love to do it for Usain Bolt because he is such a big star.”

And Alanah has not ruled out one day appearing at the games herself in the future.

She said: “I wouldn’t say I’m a potential Olympian yet, but it’s what I strive for.”
