INSPIRED by a friend’s job seeking woes Riseley man Adam Bakewell invented a unique employment tool which has now gone global.

The security guard, working from his home in Top End, came up with the idea for Reference Bank, a free online tool in which job candidates can upload references, certificates, c.vs and other information before emailing a secure link to their perspective employer.

And following the success of friends who used the service, Adam has patented the idea and opened the website up to the world attracting 38,000 members in the first three months.

Adam said: “Reference Bank is a one stop shop for candidate details and information.

“Speaking to friends who were looking for jobs I realised that collecting references was a very unclear process.

“The site is about giving people a fair chance, if lots of people are going for a job and someone gets it on a dodgy reference that is unjust.”

He added: “The great thing about it is you can upload any type of file, from an excel document which shows your sales figures for the year, to a scan of a certificate.”

And Adam hopes that the site, which is free to use, will catch on with businesses although he claims that financial reward is not his motivation.

“Employers that I have spoken to like it because everything is all in one place.

“If a candidate doesn’t have a Reference Bank profile I am looking at creating a service where employers can send a link to the site so that applicants can create their own profile and send it back.”

He added: “We could make money out of it but I am not business minded enough at the moment to do it.

“The best thing is helping people and when I get emails from people who have got their job as a result of the site.”
