A Generation worth seeing
Cover stars Next Generation play Bedford
It is not too often around these pages that we use the words "covers band" in tandem with "these guys are ace, really, you should go and see them".
But we make an exception in the case of Next Generation, because they are simply excellent.
For starters, they avoid the two usual traps of covers bands. Namely, they don't just play the same old 60s and 70s staples (or, Lord help us, Oasis and more Oasis) that you can hear from any old covers band.
But nor is their repertoire wilfully obscure. Instead it is a mix of the songs you already love and know, plus the sort of stuff that you have always meant to buy but which may be lacking in your ol' LP collection / CD rack / iTunes playlist (delete as appropriate).
And what is more, as they switch effortlessly from The Beatles to The Smiths to The Scissors Sisters there are plenty of moments when you hear the segue and have to turn to whoever is standing next to you and ask "They didn't just do that, did they?"
So what are you waiting for? You know you like these tunes already, you know that we only recommend the best bands to you. so make a note now - Next Generation play The Bluebell pub in Putnoe Lane on Saturday, May 30 from 9pm and entry is free.
