A dad whose daughter had to undergo a series of life-threating operations has penned a book to help other parents.
Pete Cook, 37, who lives in Oakley, has written Have I Got To Have Another Scar? after his daughter Charlotte was born with a series of complications.
Mr Cook and his wife Debbie welcomed baby Charlotte at Bedford Hospital six years ago, but within 24 hours she seemed lifeless and was taken to intensive care.
She was diagnosed with a hole in the heart and a string of other complications, which have required eight operations during her short life.
He said: “About a week after she was born I started writing. We saw a counsellor at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and he said if he wasn’t about then write everything down so that’s what I did.
“I wrote it to help me cope at the time and friends told me I should get it published. No one has said anything horrible about it which is great.”
Charlotte is now fighting fit, but still attends a check up every two years. And Mr Cook hopes that publishing his book, available on Amazon and Kindle will help other families going through similar traumas.
He said: “The book is a bit of tear-jerker but I think parents would like it because there are lots of baby stories in it too. Any parent who is going through the same sort of thing might benefit from reading the book too. It would certainly have helped me at the time to know that other people felt the same as us.”
