Sex On The Beach, Pina Colada and Long Island Iced Tea are all popular cocktails, and now the Varne-Vous can be added to that list.
Okay, so it may not quite be up there with the likes of Margarita and Cosmopolitan, but I now have my very own cocktail that has been specially designed for me, thanks to a new online business that has recently been set up called My Own Cocktail
Philip Kelly, who lives in Flitwick, has launched the business from his home after a hobby of creating cocktails went down a storm with family and friends.
He said: “I created my very first cocktail for my then-girlfriend Victoria for her 21st birthday, called the Miss Victoria, She must have liked it because she is now my wife.
“She was really pleased with it and loved the cocktail. I then started making it for family and friends, which always went down a hit, so I thought why not make it into a business?
“I have always had a passion for cocktails. If I’m in a bar I always end up behind the bar mixing up a cocktail or if I’m at a family event I will always go through every bottle of alcohol in the house and create a new cocktail for people to try.”
Being a lover of cocktails myself, I jumped at the chance of having my very own cocktail designed for me to suit my likes, dislikes and personality.
And 34-year-old Philip certainly delivered. He designed the Varne-Vous - a delicious mix of Vodka, fresh blueberries, Blue Curacao and Peach Schnapps, lots of ice, and a squeeze of lime. On Friday we headed to The Lane in Castle Quay, Bedford, who very kindly loaned us the bar for the afternoon to make up the Varne-Vous.
I was a bit unsure at first when Philip said it was based around blueberries, but I was very surprised because the drink was delicious, nicer than any cocktail I have tasted before.
In my package I can now hand over a card with the ingredients of a Varne-Vous and have it made up in a bars and pubs. I was also given a certificate and the recipe.
Philip designed my drink after he asked me to fill in a questionnaire, which he asks all customers to complete before he designs their cocktail.
He added: “I think the questionnaire covers pretty much all the bases, I ask people about favourite foods and drinks and if there are any tastes they really dislike or are allergic to.
“I then used that to create their cocktail. With the Varne-Vous Catherine said her favourite colour was purple, so that’s where I thought the blueberries would work. The taste was a bit too strong on its own, so that’s why I added the Blue Curacao, it added to the colour and sweetened the taste.”
For a unique Christmas present for a loved one or just for yourself, why not get your own cocktail?
