A record investment to improve pavements across Bedford borough is set to be delivered.
Bedford Borough Council’s budget proposals for the 2014/15 financial year include an extra £1million investment for footpaths.
This is in addition to the investment to improve and maintain the roads across the borough.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “In setting our budgets in recent years we have always been clear that we want to direct savings away from frontline services and continue to invest in services which matter most to people.
“Local residents regularly tell me that the condition of our roads and pavements is extremely important and we have therefore invested more than ever before to improve the roads in Bedford borough in recent years.
“Investing an additional £1million shows our continued commitment to improving the condition of our footways right across the borough.”
The £1million investment in borough footpaths is part of the 2014/15 council budget, approved by executive members on January 22. The budget will be presented to the full council on Wednesday, February 5.
