100 and not out for marathon man Noel
b12-775 Noel Jones of Bromham has completed 100 marathons.
WHEN Noel Jones decided to start running marathons in 2006 it became a little bit of an addiction.
And now 100 marathons later Noel, 48 has no desire to hang up his running shoes.
The Bedford Harriers trainer set himself the challenge of running just one marathon but got hooked and has run marathons in every year since.
His busiest years were 2010 and 2011 when he ran 60 marathons in total.
Noel, who lives in Quenby Way, Bromham, said: “My toughest was probably ten marathons in ten days around Windermere in 2011.
“I really love doing it, the encouragement and support from other runners when you are struggling to get to the end is tremendous.
He added: “I love being out in the countryside and pursuing my own particular challenge to complete it.
“Each one is still difficult.”
And every year Noel organises his own marathon, The Bedford Clanger which takes place at Box End Park on Easter Saturday. The off-road run raises cash for a different charity each year.
Noel added: “I’ve run a lot of enjoyable marathons but it’s always a good feeling to get to the end. And it isn’t over yet, I’ve got four more booked already.”
