Exciting draft plans for the new Flitwick Leisure Centre have been drawn up for the community to comment on before it goes forward for planning permission.
Plans for the building will be submitted in the next couple of months and Central Beds Council wants to hear current users and residents’ ideas about the suggested layouts.
There will be an open evening at the current leisure centre on Wednesday (February 19) from 4pm where people can go through the plans with the project team and pass on their feedback.
Councillor Brian Spurr, executive member for sustainable communities, services said: “People have been talking about a new leisure centre in Flitwick for years, so it’s really exciting to be at the stage where we have committed to invest and plans are being drawn up.
“We would encourage people to drop by the exhibition to share their thoughts, or do so on the feedback forms at the centre and library.”
The council has developed a Leisure Strategy with the goal of increasing opportunities for local residents to get involved in sports and physical activities.
The strategy also outlines the investments and improvements that will be made across all leisure centres in the area, not just at Flitwick.
Mr Spurr added: “Flitwick Town Council have played an important part in making this project possible by exchanging land so that we can build the new leisure centre. In turn the Town Council will be able to develop a large country park.”
Flitwick Town Mayor, Phillip Thompson said: “This is a landmark in getting nearer to having a number of new and exciting facilities for our local community to enjoy.
“We are very pleased to be part of helping make this happen, and look forward to the day when the new centre is open.”
