Neglect charges against a mother after her 19 month old baby girl died have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Nikki Gooch, 28, of Maulden, Bedfordshire, was due to appear at Luton Crown Court today (Tuesday) to enter her plea to neglect charges.

But the case was discontinued after the CPS decided not to proceed.

A CPS spokesman said: “There is not enough evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.”

Baby Autumn, who died on Saturday, April 11, was described by neighbours at the time of the tragedy as a ‘happy little soul’ and a ‘right giggler’.

Det Insp Fraser Wylie said: “The case against Nikki Gooch has been discontinued. We will continue to review the evidence to ensure that this course of action is correct.”
