Allotment gardeners are inviting people to find out more about growing your own during National Allotment Week.
Bedford’s charity-run Mile End Allotments is hosting a Party on the Plot this Saturday (August 15) to reveal the delights of cultivating your own fruit and veg. Carol Andrew, from the allotment association, said: “We welcome all to visit us and see for yourselves the benefits of allotments.
“We have a new trading hut for members and we also have a communal room where we recycle gardening items and also use as a place to catch up and share ideas over a cuppa.”
The site also has a community allotment where members who do not have plots themselves can learn how to grow produce. Many users are vulnerable people who have felt isolated in the past.
This year’s theme for National Allotments Week, running until Sunday (August 16), is a ‘plot for all ages’, emphasising the benefits that allotments bring to everyone regardless of their age.
There are vacant full and half plots on offer at the allotment site, where a full plot costs £48.
