The victim was threatened and told to sit in the living room while they searched the house, but no items were taken.

Then, at around 9.15pm, a group of masked men forced the front door of an address in Ibbett Close, Kempston, where a man in his 80s was at home alone.

The offenders told the victim to be quiet and demanded money. He was threatened and they stole the rings he was wearing before searching the house and stealing further items of jewellery.

The offenders made off in a dark coloured car which is thought to have been an Audi.

Detective Constable Jason Wheeler said: “I would like to speak to anybody who may have seen these men or the vehicle making off in the area around the time of the offences.

“These were awful offences in which the victims were put through terrifying ordeals in their own homes. We are investigating the possibility that these offences are linked and are appealing for any information that will help us ensure they are caught for this despicable crime.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Wheeler on 101, text 07786 200 011, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
