JD sports to open new store in Bedford in November
New location for sports store
Major sports retailer JD Sports has announced that it will open a store on the site of the former HMV shop in Bedford.
The Silver Street premises have been closed for refurbishment but bosses are planning a November opening for the new store.
JD Sports already has premises in Bedford town centre, in Midland Road and it is not yet known if those premises are to close.
A spokesman for Bedford BID, an umbrella organisation for businesses across the town centre praised the move.
He said: "It is great news for all businesses when a new shop opens in the town centre which attracts new customers.
"The Bedford BID is pleased that this important location is now occupied by such a popular retailer."
And Bedford Borough council also praised the move claiming that moving to the new location could boost trade for the store.
A spokesman said: "We are very pleased that JD Sports have been able to expand within the town centre at this high profile location in Silver Street.
"We continue to work with businesses to ensure Bedford is a vibrant shopping experience for visitors to enjoy, and are looking forward to welcoming more big names to the town centre."
