Jacqui Dankworth brings A Song For You to launch autumn series of concerts at new theatre in Bedford

An exciting new series of A Song For You from the fabulous Jacqui Dankworth is to be launched at a concert in Bedford.

Jacqui will be on stage with her band at the new Quarry Theatre at St Luke’s on Friday, May 29, and afterwards will also announce more details of the concerts which run throughout the autumn.

The series has become a popoular date at the Ent Shed in Castle Road and will offer more seating at the Quarry Theatre which can take a larger audience.

Joining Jacqui will be accompanied by her husband Charlie Wood, the American singer/songwriter and keyboard player, drummer Chris Wells, bass player Dudley Phillips and saxophonist Frank Griffith.

It promises to be a night full of music as Frank will also be welcoming guests with his music as they arrive in the bar area of the theatre, which is in St Peter’s Street.

Jacqui said: “It will be a beautiful night of song, with a whole selection of music.”

Song-based jazz and jazz standards will be mixed with some classic songs in this one-off concert which will also feature some of Jacqui’s own material.

The series of A Song For You starts on September 4 at the Quarry Theatre with other dates set for October 2, November 21 and December 18.

One of the most highly regarded vocalists in the UK, Jacqui’s concert appearances and her stylistically diverse recordings showcase her virtuosic and effortless mastery of a wide spectrum of genres.

Known primarily as a jazz singer, Jacqui also draws on folk, soul and blues influences and her voice has been described by critics as “multi-faceted” and “incomparable”.

Also an accomplished actor, having performed leading parts with the Royal Shakespeare Company, among others, she has collaborated and worked with many diverse musicians including The Brodsky Quartet and Courtney Pine, Marvin Hamlisch, Paloma Faith, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Gretchen Parlato, Clare Teale, Georgie Fame, David Gordon, Charlie Wood, Gregory Porter, The BBC Big Band, RTE, LSO and RPO Orchestras and the legendary Chick Corea.
