Veteran marathon runner Iva Barr has praised the portrait of herself when she came face to face with the finished work.
Oliver Winconek, who was born in Bedford, is a full time portrait and figurative artist and he wanted to commemorate her final run in London this year. Iva, 87, is portrayed holding her medal from this year’s marathon and she met Oliver at Bedford International Stadium to view the work. She said: “The painting is incredible. I cannot believe the amount of detail Oliver has been able to achieve. I feel very lucky. It looks just like me, it really is a wonderful painting.”
Paula Radcliffe tweeted “Incredible lady and art.” The oil painting will be exhibited in London. Oliver, who has a studio in Huntingdon, exhibits widely.
