Inquests open for caravan blaze duo

The inquests into two people who died in a caravan fire at the Kelpie Marina in Roxton on December 18 was opened yesterday.

David Breen, aged 77, of Cloverland, Hatfield and Elsie May Walker, 69, of Bishops Rise, also Hatfield, were declared dead at the scene after the early morning fire at the marina.

Cause of death for both people has been given as smoke inhalation.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire at the boatyard on the Great North Road on December 18.

When they arrived they found a caravan well on fire. They fought the fire using two fire hoses, taking care of two LPG cylinders at the scene.

The cause of the fire is being jointly investigated by BFRS and the Police, but at this stage is not being treated as supicious.
