Bedford Hospital is now clear of the highly contagious norovirus after weeks of battling the bug.

It means all wards are now open to patient admissions and normal visiting rules have resumed.

However, medical staff are being extra vigilant so that nay potential cases of the winter vomiting bug are identified early.

Visitors are asked to asked to wash their hands with soap and water upon entering and exiting ward areas as alcohol gel does not kill the virus.

Anyone who has experienced symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting within the last 48 hours is asked not to attend the hospital unless it is an emergency. Instead call your GP surgery for advice.
