After 25 years serving as a councillor, Apu Bagchi has received the title Honorary Alderman from the Borough Council.
Mr Bagchi, who represented Castle Ward until May this year , said it is “very nice to be recognised” for his efforts over the years. He said: “It’s been a great privilege to do work for Castle Ward.

“It’s a good place and the people are extremely kind and generous.
“After 25 years, I have fond memories and no regrets.”
As a former Independent councillor, Mr Bagchi continues working for the Local Government Association Independent Group, supporting Independent councillors around the country.
He is also looking forward to spending more time with his family, and especially his grandchildren.
