A housing provider is holding a home exchange event in Bedford next week for residents in social rented housing.
Residents looking to find a new affordable home will have the opportunity to discuss their downsizing or upsizing options, at the event on Wednesday, February 26 between 10am and 2pm..
The free event, which is open to both BPHA residents and customers of other local housing groups, will be a drop-in session at Bedford Corn Exchange.
Residents will be able to meet and search for their ideal home, and a team of experts will be on-hand to offer home exchange advice.
In Bedfordshire, residents‟ housing benefits have been reduced by as much as 25% since welfare reform was introduced in April 2013. Commonly referred to as Bedroom Tax‟, it has cut housing benefit in social rented accommodation that is considered to have at least one spare bedroom.
Kevin Bolt, Interim CEO of BPHA, said: “We are encouraging residents to view home exchange as an affordable and realistic option to meet their housing needs. A mutual exchange can take as little as six weeks and our team can provide support and guidance throughout the process.”
