High rises set to be demolished
Gwyn and Patteshull Courts will go down to make way for the town centre re-development
Vacant high rise flats around Bedford Bus Station are set to be demolished after being bought by Bedford Borough Council.
The council has exchanged contracts with Bedford Pilgrims Housing Association (BHPA) to seal the deal to take ownership of Gwyn and Patteshull Courts.
The vacant blocks will be demolished to speed up the town centre regeneration programme.
Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson said: "The town centre west development will transform Bedford town centre. The purchase and subsequent demolition of these vacant blocks is a major milestone for the development.
"Clearly the delivery of the scheme has been affected by the economic climate, but we will continue to do all we can to move the regeneration of the town centre forward."
