The New Year saw the arrival of five new babies at Bedford Hospital.
Staff at Cygnet Wing welcomed the first, Mahbubur Rahman, at 6.13am, with the last arriving at 11.25pm.
Mahbubur’s mother, Kolsuma Bibi, she was watching New Year’s fireworks being set off outside her home when she went into labour and headed to hospital.
“Everyone there was fantastic. There was a big team looking after us, and they were in the festive spirit.”
Kolsuma took baby Mahbubur home with dad, Mothiur, the following day, when he met his big sister, three-and-a-half year old Rabiah.
Kolsuma said: “She is so excited to have a little brother. She brings him toys and lets us know when he’s crying.”
Midwives were also on hand to help Austin Joseph Harper into the world at 10.22pm, making him the fourth New Year baby.
Proud mum Elizabeth and dad James said he “seems a chilled out little boy”.
Elizabeth said: “I went in at 5am on the 31st and spent New Year’s Eve watching the fireworks out of the hospital window.
“Bedford Hospital is incredible. From the ante-natal appointments, through the birth and the post natal, the staff are outstanding.”
Austin weighed in at 7llbs 11.5ozs and immediately won over his big brother Finley, who is three-and-a-half, when he went home on Saturday night.
Elizabeth said: “Finley loves him. He can’t get enough of him.”
