Patients will soon benefit from a new £1.5 million renal dialysis unit in Bedford.

The East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is creating the unit with its specialist partner Diaverum UK in Bedford.

The new unit, which will be on Napier Road in the Elm Farm Industrial Estate, will have ten dialysis stations with sufficient capacity to add a further six as and when needed.

The Trust’s general manager for renal medicine, Bridget Sanders, said: “Our new renal dialysis unit in Bedford is taking shape rapidly and is on track to open to its first patients in April 2013.

“The unit is located in a part of the country where people traditionally have had to travel fairly long distances to access this important life-saving service.”

Once up and running the unit will cater up to 60 dialysis patients.
